Description
Enjoy a sumptuous wine and hors d oeuvres reception, benefitting the Historical Society of Palm Desert and The Joslyn Center, for the opening of the first exhibition of Walter S. White's work since the acclaimed 2015 Museum of Art, Design and Architecture exhibition at UC Santa Barbara. This exhibition focuses on White's influence in the Coachella Valley, the site of his earliest and most adventuresome work. Walter S. White (1917-2002) was an inventor, builder and architect, working in Palm Desert, Palm Springs, Indio and La Quinta in the 1940's and 1950's. This exhibit features drawings and photographs of White's work in the desert, including the iconic 1955 Miles Bates house in Palm Desert and the 1955 Dr. Franz Alexander house in Palm Springs, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This exhibition is sponsored by The Historical Society of Palm Desert, the Joslyn Center, and the Museum of Art, Design and Architecture at the University of California Santa Barbara. The Joslyn Center is located just a block from the Miles Bates home and three blocks from El Paseo. Tickets are limited.
